The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual nationwide assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation) and numeracy. NAPLAN has been a part of both the non-government and government school calendar since its birth in 2008 and is held in the second week in May.
From 2017 all Year 9 students must reach the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy in NAPLAN in order to be eligible for the HSC in 2020. Students will have their first opportunity to prove they meet the standard by achieving Band 8 results or above in Year 9 NAPLAN reading, writing and numeracy tests. Students who do not receive a Band 8 or higher in Year 9 NAPLAN will then have to sit further examinations to be eligible to complete the HSC.
Did you know that Year 9 NAPLAN tests the curriculum covered in Year 8? This is why it is vital that current Year 8 students get the preparation they need to perform well in the Year 9 NAPLAN. By achieving a Band 8 or above, students will have met the minimum standard to receive their HSC.
We acknowledge that NAPLAN is an important assessment program for all students as it provides essential information for teachers in ensuring all students acquire the skills the syllabuses are designed to teach. Teachers can specifically hone in on the skills the students have not mastered, and teach these techniques, rather than repeat skills already learnt.
At Global Education Academy, we incorporate essential techniques in every tutoring session that will be tested for in NAPLAN. Our tutors provide the support that students need, in order to be successful, by covering literacy and numeracy skills aligned with the school curriculum.
In preparation for NAPLAN testing, we have classes available in:
includes concepts, strategies and problem-solving
Wednesday 6pm to 8pm
Saturday 3.30pm to 5.30pm
includes Reading Comprehension, Language Conventions and Writing
Thursday 6pm to 8pm
Saturday 1.30pm to 3.30pm
In teaching these two courses GEA covers all the areas assessed by NAPLAN and more.
At Global Education Academy, we also offer Intensive NAPLAN Preparation during the April school holidays, 17 to 20 April, 2018. This course is designed to maximise students’ performance and empower them with the tools and techniques needed in NAPLAN.
Our comprehensive course covers all the aspects of the test:
The course also covers time management, cognitive load management, and performance under exam conditions. Students will also sit a few practice tests to get them accustomed to the structure of the test.
The NAPLAN Preparation Holiday Course at GEA is conducted in a supportive, friendly and engaging learning environment where the academic development of each student comes first.
