English “Unlocking Comprehension Skills” (Year 4, 5 & 6)

This program is designed to help students develop strong analytical reading skills, deeper textual understanding, and advanced comprehension techniques. Students will learn how to move beyond basic reading and develop the ability to:

• analyse texts critically,
• identify hidden meanings,
• interpret author intent,
• infer information confidently,
• and respond to challenging comprehension questions with accuracy.

Morning Session

The course focuses on strengthening vocabulary, inference skills, critical thinking, reading fluency, and written response techniques.

Students will work through a variety of engaging texts including narratives, persuasive texts, informative articles, poetry, and exam-style comprehension passages.

• Identifying themes and main ideas
• Understanding author’s purpose and tone of the poem
• Vocabulary in context
• Analysing language techniques
• Interpreting figurative language
• Developing short-answer writing
• Critical thinking and reasoning skills

Learning Outcomes

Students will:

• read more confidently and analytically,
• improve comprehension accuracy,
• understanding the authors purpose of the poem,
• develop deeper textual understanding,
• and build confidence tackling advanced English tasks.

The course is designed to support students aiming to strengthen school performance while also preparing for advanced learning pathways for Selective preparation.

Afternoon Session

At Global Education Academy, we believe children learn best when learning is balanced with creativity and enjoyment. Our afternoon sessions from 1 PM to 5 PM include

• interactive activities,
• arts & crafts,
• quizzes,
• movie sessions,
• and team work & games

The afternoon session is designed to keep children happy, confident, and socially engaged.
