About our Maths Program

Why It Matters

Math is the universal language of logic. The better you are at math, the better your grades will be and the more you will think analytically in all subjects and throughout life. Clear-thinking students who recognize patterns and solve problems with ease are building a foundation for success in life. Students who understand mathematical concepts (not just procedures) can solve any problem that comes their way. They will know how to apply what they’ve learned to new situations. They will think logically under pressure and excel in every subject. Here at Global Education Academy we believe every child can grow to love math and become confident mathematicians.

We believe confidence in mathematics is built from the ground up. Our Math program ensures Year’s K-12 students learn math conceptually, not just at a surface level. Whether your child needs help with number sense, problem solving techniques or Selective School Entry and/or HSC preparation, our experienced and inspirational teachers will support them every step of the way.

Our Approach

How we teach Maths differently

Four principles shape every lesson we deliver, from Year K – 12.

01

We start with understanding, not assumptions

First, we find out exactly where your child stands. We look beyond their year level to their actual understanding. Our Assessment for Learning helps us find any gaps that may have formed over time. Every student begins at the right spot.

02

We teach the why, not just the how

Many tutoring centres focus on procedures. We focus on understanding. Our method is based on Cognitive Load Theory, which GEA’s founder, Dr. Majeda Awawdeh, developed during her PhD research at UNSW. Lessons are designed so students clearly grasp concepts without feeling overwhelmed. They can then apply what they learn to unfamiliar questions.

03

We use a proven method

Each Maths lesson at GEA uses our Five-C Methodology and UPSL™ Strategy. They offer a structured, research-based approach that helps students think mathematically, tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence, and remember what they have learned long after the lesson ends.

04

We prepare students for exam

Understanding concepts is just one part of the process. Our students also practice for actual exam conditions, including question types and time pressure which is needed to perform in competitive test like OC and Selective.

Student Outcomes

What students develop with GEA Maths

Our students leave each term not just having covered content but having genuinely grown as mathematical thinkers and problem solvers.

Focus on concept understanding

We do not encourage students to memorise. We teach the why behind every concept. Students build a foundation that helps them to approach not just in familiar questions but in ones they have never seen before.

Problem-solving approach

Students develop and learn to read a word problem carefully and identify what’s being asked in the question. Work through it with logic and structure to derive the answer.

Built confidence

For many students, confidence is the piece that’s been missing all along. With developing more understanding towards the subject they also develop a self-confidence and belief. Students start approaching it with calm and certainty.

Ready for exam

Whether it’s NAPLAN, Selective School, OC or HSC, students develop the skills, strategies and exam habits to perform at their best under pressure.

NSW Curriculum

Our program is mapped to the NSW Curriculum, so students stay on track with their Year level while building well ahead of their cohort.

Independent thinkers

We try our best to aim for students who think for themselves, to check their work and trust their reasoning.

We enrolled our daughter, Christine, in English Level 9 for Term 1, 2026, and we’ve had a very positive experience with GEA. From the very beginning, the enrolment process was smooth and efficient. I called GEA to make enquiries, and they quickly organised a trial lesson for Christine. She really enjoyed the trial class and was happy to continue for the entire term.

My son joined GEA last year after spending a couple of years with another provider. The difference was immediate. GEA tailored the program to his needs and aligned it with our expectations as parents. His Maths performance has been consistently A-grade since joining. English initially remained unchanged, but GEA reviewed his progress, adjusted the approach the following term, and the improvement since then has been significant. We value the partnership-style engagement — feedback flows both ways, and the results speak for themselves. The teachers and staff are highly trained, consistently professional, and their customer service is first-class. Not once have we had a teacher arrive late. GEA delivers quality, accountability, and measurable outcomes. Highly recommended.

We were so happy with the results the team at GEA Kogarah were able to help our daughter obtain in her selective exam that we signed our second daughter up for their selective 50 week course a year later. Friends of ours who have used other tutoring places all reported issues that we never experienced with GEA. Highly recommended!

Most students begin their selective school English preparation by the start of Year 5, giving students 12–18 months to build skills and practice exam technique. However, we generally recommend beginning in Year 4 and our Intro to Selective and Scholarship course is the starting point for smooth transition into Selective prep.
